Dave Johnson

A 1975 graduate of Minnesota’s Luther College, Dave taught for a year, then headed south to the Missouri/Arkansas state line & converted a church building into a ceramic studio. He’s been a full-time production potter since 1976.

Besides his functional pottery, Dave exhibits his love of the woods with feeders (cleverly designed to thwart squirrels by having the weight of the feeder hold the lid closed) & bathing pools for the birds. Besides his functional pottery, Dave creates vases/vessels that he then fires using crystalline glazes. These crystal formations on the exterior are the result of a specialized firing process that involves controlled cooling and a carefully formulated glaze recipe. The growth of crystals within the glaze makes intricate patterns and shimmering surfaces.
